The University of Utah's Acute Care Complex is a seven-story hospital featuring six operating rooms, multiple exam rooms, patient rooms, and a floor of shelled space. Spanning nearly 300,000 sf, this facility was the first phase of the Transformation Project. Within its six stories above grade and two basement levels are clinics, surgery suites, faculty offices, a loading dock, and support services.
The complex supports over 100,000 new outpatient visits annually, with 86,000 square feet dedicated to outpatient clinical space and 108 inpatient beds. A universal design was developed for the outpatient clinical space, with minor customizations to meet the specific needs of Dental, ENT, Dermatology, Urology, Surgery, Thrombosis, Infusion, Internal Medicine, OBGYN, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. This design allows various clinics to flex into adjacent spaces during busy times. More than 35 departments occupy the building.
