Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital Campus Reconfiguration
Okland Construction
2019 UC&D Best Large Healthcare Project
The Intermountain St. George Regional Hosiptal Campus is the major medical referral center for southern Utah, northwestern Arizona, and southeastern Nevada. It includes a three-level diagnostic and treatment center, a four-story physician office building, and a six-story nursing and patient care tower. Structural design considerations included support for a significant investment in sophisticated new imaging equipment. Reaveley worked closely with the owner and design team to devise a structural solution to protect the structure from earthquake forces and accommodate the expansive bedrock conditions of the region. Reinforced concrete drilled piers - varying in diameter from one to five feet - extend 25 to 30 feet into the ground. The 216 drilled piers are designed to resist potential uplift pressures resulting from expansive soil and the horizontal and vertical reactions from the ductile eccentric braced frame (EBF) lateral system.
The facility is equipped with the latest medical technology, including cutting-edge diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and treatment options. It houses various specialty services such as cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, and women's health, providing patients access to a wide range of expert care.
Above all, the project prioritized patient comfort, safety, and privacy, incorporating natural light, soothing colors, and efficient layouts to create a healing environment. The campus reconfiguration is the largest building project ever in Washington County.
