The Gateway Development
The Gateway, located in downtown Salt Lake City, is an ambitious mixed-use project including housing retail, restaurants, office space, parking, and entertainment facilities. Constructed on the site of the Union Pacific’s main rail yard, design and construction were on a very tight and critical schedule with the property’s grand opening set to precede the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Reaveley Engineers provided structural engineering for blocks B, D and F. Block B is a mixed-use block which combines office, parking, retail and entertainment space. The lower four stories are parking levels totaling over 950 parking stalls. Street-level retail is located around the perimeter. Three separate office towers spring from the lower parking level. Block F includes street-level retail space as well as retail pods constructed adjacent to the Union Pacific Depot Building. Two pedestrian bridges, a clock tower feature, and surrounding retail spaces were also part of Reaveley’s scope of work.
