Provo City Power Campus
Layton Construction
2017 ENR Mountain States Region Best Projects Government/Public
The new Provo Power Building replaces the old power plant built in 1939. The project included demolition of two smokestacks, a power generation building, as well as the administrative, warehouse and shop buildings. The smokestacks were an iconic landmark in Utah County and many of its historical details were included in the new building design. The owner requested the building be designed for higher performance following earthquake and flooding hazards. The project was assigned Risk Category III and was designed to resist higher forces of this risk category. The new two-story facility includes administrative spaces on both levels, warehouse storage, and truck parking bays.
