Provo Public Safety & City Center
The Provo City Center, spanning 204,000 sf, consolidates various municipal departments into a single campus, serving as a civic hub and entry point to downtown Provo. Elements of the striking four-story lobby were inspired by Utah's famous slot canyons, providing ample lighting and evoking a natural feel while reducing energy consumption. Housing city administration, council chambers, the mayor's office, customer service, and public safety functions, including police and fire departments, the complex is designed for seamless circulation while maintaining distinct security measures.
The facility prioritizes public safety, with dedicated spaces for emergency dispatch, K-9 kennels, crime lab, and evidence storage. With community engagement at its core, the center features a community room adjacent to a public plaza, fostering transparency and accessibility. The design integrates sustainability principles, achieving LEED net-zero emissions while accommodating future growth with planned expansion spaces across its five levels. From its strategic location on a downtown transportation artery to its innovative technology and security systems, the Provo City Center embodies functionality, resilience, and sustainability, poised to serve the city's needs for generations to come.
