In the News

Originally built by pioneer settlers in 1867, the Tabernacle on Temple Square is considered an architectural masterpiece. It is celebrated for its acoustics and storied construction by early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because the Salt Lake valley is situated near seismic faults, the Church wanted to protect the building and its occupants while preserving the historic fabric of the Tabernacle. To strengthen the structure, the footings and foundation were reinforced, a steel belt truss was installed to tie the stone piers to the trusses, and new steel trusses were installed adjacent to the original wooden trusses on both ends of the roof structure.
