Cliff Lodge Expansion and Remodel
1988 ACEC Utah Excellence in Engineering Grand Conceptor Award
Originally constructed in 1974, the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort opened with 162 rooms. It wasn't long before a booming ski industry would require the resort to build a 13-story addition, increasing the number of guest rooms to 532. The center of the hotel features a 110-foot high atrium located between the original Cliff Lodge and the newer accommodations. Ten reinforced concrete balconies connect the older remodeled guest rooms with the new facilities through the atrium. Glass curtain walls on either side of the atrium offer spectacular views of Mount Superior, ski trails, and mountain peaks. Guest amenities at the Cliff Lodge include five restaurants, four lounges, and a complete health spa. The 27,000 sf spa provides guests with services from facial care and herbal body wraps to aerobics and weight lifting. The upper level of the spa includes a year-round open roof swimming pool and separate jacuzzi spa.
