Situated amidst the breathtaking landscape at the base of the Moab Rim, the new Academic Building stands as Utah State University's first net-zero energy building. Designed to harmonize with its desert surroundings, the building incorporates a ground-coupled mechanical system and photovoltaic panels to generate as much energy as it consumes, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint.
This 22,000 sf facility accommodates a range of programs, including general education, nursing, and career and technical education. The building utilizes sensor-equipped lighting systems and sustainable materials, exemplifying a commitment to sustainability and resiliency. The building's sustainable features extend beyond energy efficiency to include geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater harvesting, and PCV-free interior finishes, culminating in the mitigation of approximately 196 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
